Exam day deja vu except a fair amount of it really is different

1) In panel one, the girl is having a nightmare that she has a test today that she didn't study for. In panel two, the girl is having a nightmare that she went to school in only her underwear. Fortunately, she wears very conservative underwear.
2) The apple in panel one contains a hidden camera to try to catch whether kids are cheating.
3) In panel two, the girl's bugged-out, perfectly spherical eyes mark her as the spawn of Beaker.
4) In panel one, the teacher is cramming for a test. While the teacher takes her test, her proctor will be cramming for a test of his own, and so on, recursively, until the heads of every major university take an exam proctored by an easily-provoked badger. (I was going to say a testy badger before I realized that involved a truly awful unintentional pun.)
5) The test in panel one covers basic arithmetic. The test in panel two covers basic Boolean arithmetic, and is indistinguishable from the first test except for the fact that 1 + 1 = 1. Nobody gets that one right.
6) About 20% of the content of panel one is copied from this puzzle, compared to just 15% of panel two.

Yes, I'm worried about this marvelous kingdom, this world where lolcats and keyboard cats and nyan cats reign supreme. You see, there's this bill called SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act. It gives an enormous amount of control to major content providers, who would be able to have sites shut down without due process to determine if the Fair Use Act applies. It could institutionalize censorship and introduce security flaws to the World Wide Web. The original bill even mucks about in the DNS, requiring ISPs to redirect traffic from sites that are deemed piracy havens. It's been watered down a bit since then, but that's cold comfort. What's worse, really, is the example we'd be setting to the rest of the world -- that it's okay to censor the Internet based on business interests or political interests. China anyone? Iran? That's what we'd be reinforcing with this bill. We need a free Web.

3) In panel one, the worker in the foreground is holding the plans upside down.

5) In panel one, the construction company will receive OSHA violations for its failure to give its crew properly fitting helmets and shirts. Seriously, imagine welding something in that. In panel two, the worker on the beam will file a worker's comp claim when he is hit in the nose with his lunchbox.
6) So what's with that weird white background with the curvy line? Panel one depicts a levitating construction trailer with wires coming out of it and attaching to a barrel. No doubt there is a detonator in the trailer for the dynamite in the barrel. Apparently, the company has figured out that if it blows up the buildings it completes, it might get paid to build them a second time. I'm not sure why it's levitating, but my guess is that it has something to do with all the birds on top of the trailer and something to do with the construction crew's getaway plan. Panel two depicts a construction trailer sitting on top of a perfectly white hill, perhaps covered in ice-nine. It's comforting to see people rebuilding after Vonnegut's apocalyptic vision has come true, though one might wish they were wearing more protective clothing on a site still covered by a substance that could turn them to solid ice.

I know I haven't posted a puzzle on here for months, but today's Slylock Fox has me disturbed by this seeming overreach by an increasingly authoritarian police force, with Slylock spitting on personal privacy rights. Hey Slylock, did you have a warrant for that listening device? And why video surveillance equipment in Weirdly’s home? I suppose you’re just going to fast-forward through all those scenes of Count Weirdly changing his clothes, hopping out of the shower, making love to his girlfriend ... pissing into that overflowing chamber pot by his desk.... Justice for Weirdly!

Okay, okay, since I'm on here anyway:

1) In panel one, there is a vicious and sweaty creature living in the cave. The bones are left over from the last cowboy who rode by to try to take its money bags.

2) Panel two depicts Scrooge McDuck's last stand.

3) In panel one, the creature is hiding in a hollowed-out raspberry jello salad.

4) In panel two, on the way back with Scrooge's money, the man's horse will be spooked by the snake and will throw him over the cliff to his death. It's basically The Treasure of the Sierra Madre with cartoon characters.

5) In panel one, when the creature collects enough bones, it will construct a cave out of bones and eat the jello.

6) In panel two, Slylock Fox will discover Scrooge McDuck's body two months from now. He will pin the murder on Count Weirdly.

Also! I have just purchased and started playing the Slylock Fox Spot the Differences app (for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches). It's great!

Summer Vacation Six Differences

2) In panel one, bones are growing on the ground like flowers. It is a horrific world, in which skeletons sprout from the earth like saplings and a slight breeze can uproot them and send them wandering through the world.

3) In panel two, it appears that Concave Roofing LLC got another contract!

4) Panel one gave me deja vu, even though I couldn't find a post with a comic exactly like it in the archives (despite the fact that clicking the ice cream tag unearths a wealth of comics of animals licking people's ice cream). Panel two, when I looked at it, was clearly an original creation.

5) The homeowners in panel one are too cheap to get air conditioning.

6) In panel one, the white bushes are an oversight by the colorist. In panel two, which takes place in the land of Chewandswallow, they are giant mounds of cottage cheese.

President's Day Slylock

So, I decided to celebrate President's Day this year by buying an unregistered AK-47 and using it to shoot a bald eagle, as is my Second Amendment right, then burning the eagle on my backyard replica of the Lincoln Memorial (along with a turkey leg in honor of Benjamin Franklin) while reciting chapter and verse from Glenn Beck. You know. The traditional way. Bob Weber, Jr., on the other hand, has decided to mark the holiday by depicting his green-skinned, boxer short-clad villain, Count Weirdly, in a stovepipe hat and Lincoln-esque beard.

3) The dog in panel one is much more practiced at begging than the dog in panel two. He routinely holds a cardboard sign reading "Disabld vet Pleez give Enything helps" out by the exit off Highway 89.

4) The girl in panel one operates on a strict first-come, first-serve cookie policy. The girl in panel two likes the bird better than anyone else.

5) The cat in panel two will be disappointed to learn that these are dog biscuits, not moon rocks. The last time she was going to get a moon rock, the shopping channel stopped selling them before she could write the number down.

6) The children and animals in panel one got to the featureless teal void when they took a wrong turn in a coat closet. In panel two, they got to the featureless aqua void by playing the wrong note on a warp whistle.

1) The dog in panel one applied a tape cross to his jaw in a mistaken belief that it would make him look like Lady Gaga in her Bad Romance and Telephone music videos (watch at your own risk). He has a much less clear understanding of anatomy than Lady Gaga does.

2) The dog in panel one is on the BARF diet. (It's an actual thing.) The dog in panel two is on the sausage, russet potato, green droopy thing, weird-shaped brown thing and whatever else his owner can cram into this blue dish diet.

3) If you look first at the dog's eyes in panel one, then at the dog's eyes in panel two, then in panel one, then in panel two, again and again, you will begin to get sleepy, very sleepy. If you reverse the order and start with the second dog's eyes while listening to Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz, it's almost as good as the music video. (Just kidding. It's not even close. But it is vaguely music-video-esque.)

4) The dog in panel two seems to think making that face makes him look more menacing. The dog in panel one accidentally taped his upper and lower lip together when he was doing his Lady Gaga tape.

5) At least the cat left a cloud swoosh for the dog, but the cloud swoosh in panel two is tastier and far more nourishing than the one in panel one.

6) In panel one, the dog is annoyed that the cat has stolen his sausages because he wanted to make a meat dress out of them. He will make the cat pay for this theft as soon as he can get his feet untaped from the floor.

2) It is with a heavy heart that the policeman in panel one will book the Lone Ranger on attempted assault.

3) The squirrel in panel one is up to no good.

4) The policeman in panel two was told by his supervisor, "You're too close to this masked bandit case! You're off the case!" A week later, the policeman made a big break in the case of the masked bandit, and his supervisor, infuriated, said, "Turn in your badge and your gun!" So that's why the policeman is chasing the masked bandit with no badge and no gun. The scenes with the police officer and the supervisor are the true life basis for every cop movie ever.

5) In panel one, the policeman will also book the man in the hat for pimping. They will let him go when it turns out he just dresses like a pimp.

6) The policeman in panel one is a ghost, which is why he casts no shadow. Panel two is actually a forgery of a painter's representation of the apprehension of the masked bandit. Since Koppy Kat was the forger, he mistakenly left out the shadow.

But I didn't post Tuesday's puzzle because family was visiting, so here it is, your Thanksgiving Six Differences!

1) The dog in panel one ate the remote control. He and the kids are thankful that his digestive system is keeping the TV tuned to their favorite program, Sheriff Duck.

2) In panel two, the owners of Happy Happy Cartoon Channel Amalgamated, which the kids are watching, are thankful that their cartoon enjoys favorable ratings, which allows them to sell lots of advertising for unhealthy snack foods, which allows them to buy out other cable channels, which will allow them to amass a huge media empire that will allow them to rule the world mwuhahahaha!

3) In panel one, Sheriff Duck is thankful that his sidekick, Petey Cactus, has saved his life once again with a strategically placed spine in the backside of his nemesis, Marty Mongrel.

4) In panel two, the creature under the TV is thankful that the children are careless with their crumbs.

5) In panel one, the townspeople are thankful that Sheriff Duck has outsmarted the Mongrel Gang by strategically placing fire hydrants all over town to slow the dirty dogs down.

6) In panel two, the duck is not a sheriff, but just a duck that likes to wear hats. He is thankful for the sombrero, the bowler, the cloche, and the fedora.

3) In panel one, Bowzer's owner is also angry because Bowzer has picked up a herring fork to use on turkey, despite how many times they've gone over proper dining etiquette. In panel two, Bowzer learned all his table settings from Miss Manners and is using the correct fork, though he seems to have missed the section about not propping your elbows up on the table and brandishing your cutlery like small, uncouth weapons.

4) You can't see it from this angle, but in panel two, Bowzer has taken a giant bite out of the other side of the turkey. And after the man spent two hours on the phone with the Butterball Hotline lady trying to get everything right.

Young Toots doesn't get to sit at the table with the rest of the family; he's prone to fits and he often stabs people with his fork. His tongue is stuck to the table cloth and the tines of the fork have been dulled so he doesn't lose an eye (again!). The cake has been set in front of young Toots at his isolated table and the pets begin to gather. A stabbing frenzy is about to begin. The pets never learn. The table cloth will not loosen its grip on young Toots' tongue and he will yank the table cloth out from under the cake. Thes stabbed dog and cat will roll on the floor with spastic Toots and the party never stops.

The second panel is a party for Aunt Selma.

6) In panel one, the same someone who maliciously placed the carving knife on the table has coated the tablecloth with superglue, knowing full well what would happen.

I was all set to do a contest today, when I suddenly got this weird feeling like I've been here before, seen this place before ... Oh yeah. Anyway, it's been my longstanding rule here that repeat puzzles get repeat answers. So here they are:

1) The dog on the left will be injured, taken to the vet by a sanctimonious old woman, and then brought home to a houseful of atrocious pink furniture.

2) The bird sticking its head through the knothole in the fence on the right is a rare example of a reverse mallard, known for the bright green bodies and tan heads of the females and black heads and white bodies of the males. More information about reverse mallards can be found on the Internet.

3) The bird perched on the left fence is a pileated woodpecker, as evidenced by the “pileated” tattoo on the underside of its wing. Those pileated peckers know how to represent the ‘hood.

4) The boy in the panel on the right wants to be an air traffic controller when he grows up. He’s already learned to chart and re-enact Delta flight 1313 Lost Forest to New York.

5) The man on the left bought his hat from Slick Smitty, who assured him it had a genuine kiwi feather in the hatband.

6) The man on the right is in the illegal wildlife trade (I’ve heard of that! That would make a good story). The man on the left works at the outdoor clothing show.

1) In panel one, the rabbits were accidentally washed with a red shirt. In panel two, they are pink Peeps that have become real because a child loved them for a long, long time, not just to nibble on, but REALLY loved them.

2) Panel one is a segment from the Discovery Channel. So yes, things will end badly for the rabbits. Panel two is a segment from America's Funniest Home Videos. So yes, things will end badly for the owl.

3) In panel one, the owl is a white-faced barn owl who has fallen victim of the coloring monkeys. In panel two, the owl was a chocolate-flavored marshmallow from an obscure, animal-themed breakfast cereal who became real because a child loved him for a long, long time, not just to nibble on, but REALLY loved him.

4) In panel one, the sky is a backlit canopy with holes punched in it. In panel two, it's just a sky.

5) In panel two, the rabbit left pieces of its tail behind on each hop. In panel one, the Whos have set up civilizations on the log, the back of the turtle, and the hillside. Rather than remain dependent upon some kindly elephant, the Whos have adopted a doctrine of mutual assured destruction. You can see the tiny mushroom clouds firing up at the rabbit, whose attempt to land his hop upon their villages was viewed as an act of aggression. As you can see from the survival of the rabbit and the tininess of the clouds, some gross miscalculations were involved that assured only the destruction of their own species.

6) In panel two, the bird in the tree is experiencing feelings of inadequacy after comparing its own size to the hugeness of the owl, which is only two rabbit-hops away. It will weep softly to itself as it goes to sleep in its bonsai tree.

Hattie McLowspermmotility's intentions are entirely unclear. He may be trying to arrange a meet with Alpha Kundalini Rabbit to seek higher truths or he may just want to smash those two rabbits together Three Stooges style. I didn't really spot any differences but I'm gonna need an axe and a firehose so I better get on that.

4) The man in the suit in panel one was reading yesterday's stock market returns. He has come to the conclusion that maybe those mortgage-backed securities weren't such a good idea after all. The man in the suit in panel two was only supposed to be pretending to be reading the paper as part of his cover, but became quite engrossed in Marmaduke.

5) The sawhorse in panel two is just a prop that has nothing to do with construction. The "construction worker" there is trying to dig to China. The sawhorse in panel one is a lone, rogue sawhorse that has run away from all the other sawhorses, and thus no longer has the ability to hold boards in a position to be sawed.

6) The firm that employs the construction worker in panel one will be slapped with a big ol' fine from OSHA because their employee wasn't using safety goggles or even, for that matter, able to see from under his helmet.

2) The bus stop in panel one is for midgets. That's why the sign is about at eye level for them. There used to be a bench for the bus stop, but regular-size people kept barking their shins against it.

3) In panel one, some graffiti artist has been tagging buildings with silhouettes of people with really big ears. In panel two, someone with really big ears ran through the wall of the building, leaving a person-with-big-ears-shaped hole. He hasn't figured out doors yet.

4) In panel two, the dog is spitting out a pill. Unfortunately for the dog in about 30 minutes when the anesthetic wears off, it's a painkiller. In panel one, the dog is spitting out a tooth he lost in a fistfight. How the dog got into a fistfight when he has no opposable thumbs is beyond me.

5) The cat in panel two has undergone an experimental new tail-neutering procedure. The cat will go on to inseminate many other neighborhood cats. But that's what you get for taking your cat to the DMV.

6) The dog owner in panel two is carrying his dog that way because the vet convinced him this is the most comfortable way for a dog to be transported after an operation. The dog owner in panel two forgot his leash.

1) The pink rabbit in the first panel is part of the larger hallucination the boy is having in which trees come to life when you try to chop them down. In the second panel, the rabbit is missing because this is no hallucination; it's real-life and that tree is going to eat him alive ... once it can find a way to move its massive roots.

2) Things will really turn ugly for the boy when it mates with Count Weirdly's monster tree and the offspring, a race of evil, sentient, mobile trees, descend upon him and his family.

4) The pink bunny in the hallucination is the ghost of all the Marshmallow Peeps the boy has ever eaten.

5) The axe in panel two is hovering over the bird because it is, even in this real-life realm, a cartoon axe along the lines of Wile E. Coyote that is not affected by gravity until about two seconds after it's dropped. It's still sharp, though.

6) The white grass in panel two is a coloring error. The white grass in panel one is so freaked out it went pale.
